The end of the first month of the year of the UFO

I will start this weeks post with my "Nearly Insane" block of the week. This is block #36 and measures 6" and has 78 pieces. 31 more to go!This is the last of the "Applique Affair" wool blocks. Now I have to trim all 45 blocks and start putting them together. I'm not sure if I am going to do the borders according to the pattern yet. I may do my own thing.
I added the border fabric to my Angel's Story" top. I also finished piecing the backing using the string blocks I made.

I bought this new transfer paper from Treasured Threads at the end of last year and I have been wanting to try it out. It's pretty expensive so I wanted to try it with an intricate design. I dug out yet another UFO, The Polka Dot Girls. All you do is place your pattern in your copy machine, printer or scanner. Print it out on the transfer sheet. Peel the backing and stick it on your fabric. After you stitch you just wash away the transfer. I will let you all know how it works once I stitch it out. I sure hope this works, I am a terrible tracer.
I hope everyone has a healthy, blessed, quilty week.

More, More, More..........

I wasn't really in the mood to do any Insane blocks this weekend but I didn't want to get too far behind the group. Ranette's blocks really inspired me too! I chose to do two easy blocks. The top block will be a replacement block for one of those Insane ones that have over a hundred pieces. The one under that is block #60. Nice and easy! 65 blocks done (really 130 for me) and 33 to go (66 for me).
I was able to sew 3 more wool blocks in the evenings. I may have to re-do the one on the upper right, I don't like how the vine is so wonky.
The blocks below are 6.5" string blocks that I made using the leftovers that I had for my "An Angel's Story" quilt. I am going to make as many as I can and then use them to piece a backing for the quilt. I found the perfect border & Binding fabric today at the Orange Quilt Bee. I bought extra to hopefully have enough for the rest of the back.
I hope everyone has a healthy, happy, productive week. Happy quilting!!

Getting There!

I am slowly chipping away at my UFO pile. I was able to get all of my "An Angel Story" blocks put together. I went to 2 shops this afternoon to try to find a coordinating border fabric but had zero luck. I need to make the trek to Orange County for a quick shop hop to try my luck there. I made strips of different widths to attempt as many string quilt blocks I can get for the backing.
I was able to get another Wool block done during the week. I think I have four more left. :)
I wasted two precious hours of quilting time trying to get my Nearly Insane block of the week done. I ended up with a pile of scraps in the trash. I called Uncle and made an easier block and called it a day.
I was a good girl and stayed away from the Road to California show this weekend. I really don't need anymore projects or ideas. I will eagerly anticipate the Long Beach show this June.

Nearly Insane Block 69

A total of 54 tiny pieces in each of these 6" blocks. 63 of the 98 blocks are done. Yipeeee
I finished sewing another wool "Applique Affair" block. I then noticed I didn't have the berries positioned right. Oh well, it will add to the charm. LOL!

I finished the binding and hangers on all of my "Home is Where the Heart is" BOM wall hangings. That is 1 UFO down for 2010. As soon as I can get 7 more done I will allow myself to start a new project. I better get back to sewing!

I hope everyone has a happy, healthy week.

Plugging along

The block below is yet another replacement block I will use in my Nearly Insane quilt. I guess my quilts will be named "Nearly Insane-ish". I took this pattern from my Dear Jane book and blew it up. I think it will fit well in the quilt. The next three are more "Applique Affair" blocks in wool. I think I have seven more to go. :)

My goal for 2010 is to get 8 UFO's completed. I really don't want to start another project until I can do this. Is that possible???? I can't answer that. LOL!
